Thought Shift
The most important change we make when we surrender our lives to Christ is in transforming our mind through our thoughts. This is because everything starts with a thought. We exist because God thought of us, then He created us. Thoughts direct our lives and are the vehicle we use for meditation and reflection. Thoughts are the driving force behind our passions and our desires. They are the building blocks of mindsets, and mindsets are what set the direction of our moral compass. They are the foundation in the mind.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 12:2
Jesus didn't just come to earth to be the sacrifice for our sins, He is our example of how to live in and be an ambassador for the Kingdom of God.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
He did not leave us stranded on the earth to figure it out by ourselves. His life is our roadmap of how to fully surrender to our Heavenly Father and have the mind of Christ. This is the key to identity - the mind of Christ. When you have the mind of your creator, you see things based on the full truth of them, not just on your limited field of vision or what someone else says about you. This is why Jesus said:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
In order to start the mind shift, know that not every thought is your own. Thoughts come from 3 main places: us, God and demonic forces. Our mind is the battleground we fight on each day. Who we listen to determines who wins the battle. If the enemy can get you to believe a lie, then he will easily persuade you away from truth. Too many people are led by their feelings or their intellect. David knew all too well about the battle in the mind and he wrote about it several times in his Psalms:
